National Standards for Adventure Tourism

Introduction

Adventure tourism is a unique type of tourism that combines challenges, exploration, and experiences. It is not only a journey to conquer nature but also an opportunity to affirm personal value through challenges requiring perseverance and courage. With its rapid global development, adventure tourism is increasingly establishing its significant position within the tourism industry, delivering exceptional value to participants and local communities alike.

In Vietnam, adventure tourism has seen significant growth since the 1990s, particularly after the success of the Raid Gauloises 2002 race in the northern mountainous provinces. However, it wasn’t until 2009, when Son Doong Cave was discovered, and 2014, when the Son Doong Exploration Tour was piloted, that Vietnam’s adventure tourism truly garnered widespread attention. With its high safety standards and professional organization, the Son Doong Tour has become a symbol of Vietnamese adventure tourism. Since then, adventure tourism has emerged as a promising field, leveraging the country’s extraordinary natural advantages and contributing to elevating Vietnam’s tourism position globally.

While adventure tourism offers captivating and unforgettable experiences, it also carries inherent risks if not managed and organized properly. This is why national and international standards are developed to ensure such activities are conducted safely, delivering memorable experiences while minimizing risks.

The Course on National Standards for Adventure Tourism is based on standards TCVN 12592:2018 (ISO 21101:2014), TCVN 12593:2018 (ISO/TR 21102:2013), and TCVN 12594:2018 (ISO 21103:2014). These standards serve as guiding principles, offering comprehensive instructions from planning and risk management to communication and ensuring the professional competency of those organizing adventure tourism activities in Vietnam.

Effective application of these standards not only enhances service quality but also ensures absolute peace of mind for travelers. Simultaneously, this is a way for businesses and organizations in the adventure tourism sector to build trust and a professional image among visitors.
